Respite Care

Short-term cover, so family carers can rest, recover, or simply step away.

What it is

Respite care is short-term support arranged to give a family carer — usually a spouse or adult child — a break from their caring responsibilities. It might be a single overnight, a few days of live-in cover, or regular weekly visits over a longer period. Whatever the shape, the aim is the same: looking after the carers who look after others.

Who it is for

Respite care is for the people whose lives have quietly reorganised around someone else’s needs — the wife who has been awake for half of every night for a year, the daughter who has not had a holiday since her mother’s diagnosis, the husband who is doing too much and beginning to feel it. Caring is rewarding, but it is also exhausting, and breaks are not optional. They are essential.

What it looks like in practice

  • A live-in carer covers a week or two while a family carer takes a holiday
  • Weekly visits give a primary carer a regular afternoon to themselves
  • Overnight care two or three nights a week restores sleep
  • Day visits cover a hospital appointment, a work commitment, or a family event
  • Longer-term respite covers a planned trip, surgery recovery, or burnout

How to begin

Call us on 07894 649 565 to discuss what respite would help you most. We can usually arrange short-term cover within a few days, and longer placements within a week. There is no minimum commitment — if you only need one weekend of cover, that is what we will arrange.
